I Want To Say Thanks

Hello there, Mom

Ya feeling better?

I heard about your day.

Nine and a half months

Of general discomfort,

And almost thirty-six hours of pain.

I want to say thanks

For the Birthday card.

One year alive

And enjoying the party.

I want to say thanks

For the last twelve months,

‘Cause without you,

There is no me.

I hope you don’t mind,

I’m a little nervous.

Today is the first day of school -

A bunch of strangers,

So please don’t kiss me.

I just don’t want

To look like a fool.

Oh, I need some money

To buy a robe.

I graduate next week -

Top five percent.

It’s quite an honor.

This robe really make me

Look like a geek.

I’m off to college.

I’m gonna miss you.

But I need to be alone -

You’re crowding my space.

I need some time away.

Call you every day -

Please wait by the phone.

I’m off into the real world.

Gotta make a living.

By your teachings,

I’ve learned a ton.

I won’t play in the street,

I won’t drink and drive.

And if the house catches on fire,

I’ll call 911.

I’ve said it before,

I’ll say it again,

But before I go,

There’s one thing I must do

That’s make sure you know,

That unconditionally,

I have and will always

LOVE YOU
