Benjie was rescued as a 4-5 week old wild kitten. He had been trapped by
his shoulder by an un-level side walk. He was very particular about his
water. He was a very good "older brother" to our younger cats
and took very good care of them. He was a tom though and disappeared.
Little Girl seen here with Tiffany was a protector. We thought about
putting up a beware of attack cat sign. She ran off full grown Dobermans
and two large mixed breed dogs at one time. She was protective her babies
and her human family. We lived next to the football filed and when I
wanted to walk over to watch my sons at the half time of one game I couldn't go
over because she was in protect mode. When a lady pulled into an empty
parking space about half way down the block she rant down and watched until the
lady went across the street before coming back to take up her stance by me.
I wouldn't have wanted to see what she would have done if the lady had came into
our yard. She was Squealer's grandmother. Her two daughters were
wild. Squealer's mom got killed when her kittens were about a week old.
Her sister had a miscarriage about 2 days prior to her getting killed and
attempted to take over the care of the 5 kittens but it was too much for her.
She took care of them for nearly 2 weeks and was only getting weaker. She
brought them into the garage from their hiding place under the house. She
knew we'd find them. I had been worried about her when I realized what had
happened. We were able to capture the kittens and take them in to raise.
All survived and the adoptive mother regained her strength. Little Girl passed
on her mothering instincts it seems.
Corky
was my dad's dog. The baby chick decided that he was his mother after his
own mother abandoned him. Of course this really embarrassed poor Corky but
he never offered to bite the chick and even would eventually let him lay down
close to him in the yard.
Baby wandered up at my folk house as a kitten. He was half wild and wanted
love but only on his terms. He decided when he was full grown to
become a friendly cat. He enjoyed watching my dad work on lawn mowers.
Bobby and Socks. They were gotten within a few weeks of each other. Bobby was a half wild bobcat and half tabby cat. He was the runt of the litter but became the largest cat of the family. He and Socks were inseparable. Bobby even ran up and attacked and ran off a full grown German shepherd that 2 boys had tried to get to attack Socks. Of course this humiliated the boys. That was less than I would have done to them. Socks loved to play ball. He was my brother's dog. After Socks was killed by a car Bobby started spending more time running around. He reverted to his father's heritage and started living on his own but we would still see him occasionally for several years. He would come up let you love on him and then go off again. He did father quite a few Manx kittens over town though.
Fluffy was one of my favorite cats. He had been mine for
years and as a Tom would sometimes disappear for weeks or even months and then
show up. I moved out of my parents house away for while and they rarely
saw him. Later I moved back to Wolfe City and got my own house. I
had not seen Fluffy for about 4 years at that time. We had some wild cats
that we fed and one day I walked out to put out some food and saw a familiar
face. He had started to run off when I came out and I called
"Fluffy." He stopped turned and came running up to me. He
stayed around for several months and then disappeared forever.
